Warsco wins tender for 1,200 units for the Ministry of Defence

Warsco is taking an impressive first step in a major modernisation project for Belgian barracks. In recent weeks, the very first modular units were delivered to the barracks in Tournai. This delivery marks the start of a framework contract that will run until 2031. A total of 1,200 units will be produced, ranging from sleeping quarters and classrooms to offices and storage rooms. Hundreds of additional deliveries will follow in the coming months, with stops in Tournai, Leopoldsburg and other locations. For Warsco, this is one of the largest projects ever and a testament to Belgian craftsmanship.

‘We had to compete with foreign competitors who often work more cheaply by organising their production abroad. That is why we are delighted that a Belgian company is now being given this opportunity,’ says managing director Marc Warson.

The first units have recently been transported to the Tournai barracks, a temporary replacement for outdated infrastructure facilities. The framework contract – worth approximately €3 million annually – guarantees flexible, modular solutions that can be deployed quickly during large-scale renovations. Warsco is deploying additional staff and scaling up, inspired by previous larger projects, such as the installation of 1,500 units in Antwerp for INEOS.

The first 200 sleeping and teaching units have already been installed in Tournai, while storage and accommodation units will soon follow in Leopoldsburg. Marc Warson emphasises that Warsco is not only committed to volume, but also to speed and quality: ‘We install them as completely as possible, creating the transitions between the units on site,’ says Warson.
