Warsco takes strategic step in Germany with acquisition of Bloedorn-container

Limburg-based family business Warsco, which specialises in the production, sale and rental of modular units, is acquiring German (sea) container specialist Bloedorn-container. This move strengthens Warsco's position in the German market and increases the combined rental fleet to more than 10,000 units and containers.

Complementary match

‘We have noticed for some time that demand for our units in Germany is increasing. This acquisition is therefore a logical next step. We are now structurally anchoring our Belgian quality and know-how in the German market,’ says Marc Warson, managing director of Warsco.

Warsco is known for its high-quality, insulated units for schools, industry and construction, among others. Bloedorn-container, on the other hand, has a strong position in the container market. This complementarity is no coincidence.

‘Our units are often referred to as “containers” in popular parlance, but we actually build fully-fledged buildings,’ says Vincent Warson, director at Warsco. ‘Through the collaboration with Bloedorn-container, we are also gaining a strong position in the container market for the first time. This makes our offering broader and more relevant for large construction sites where both storage and accommodation are needed.’

Symbolic value

The move to Germany also has a symbolic significance for Warsco. The company originally started as an importer of German units, even before launching its own production in 1979. In the years that followed, several projects were already completed on German soil, with references in, among others, Wermelskirchen, Bremen and at INEOS in Cologne. “We once brought German quality here. Now we are bringing our own quality and innovation back to Germany,” says Lauren Warson, director at Warsco.

With the third generation now also at the helm, Warsco sees this acquisition as the next step in its sustainable growth strategy. “We are broadening our geographical spread and strengthening our market position. In the long term, this will create more opportunities for employment and further investments, with our roots firmly anchored in Limburg,” concludes Marc Warson. For the employees of both Warsco and Bloedorn-container, nothing changes operationally. Both companies will continue to operate with their existing teams.
